Learning How to Learn
Too many times we educators presuppose that students know HOW to do the many academic tasks we assign them to do. Like learning: spelling words; math formulas; dates, names and other data; multiplication tables; and vocabulary words. Other academic tasks include how to read with comprehension; how to make ANY subject interesting; how to take tests with feelings of calmness and competence; how to take notes; and how to listen and remember. When students don't know how to do these important academic tasks, they get frustrated and become the classic underachievers. In this workshop, you learn practical ways to teach your students how to learn.
Turning Students on to School: How to Affect Attitude
The second major stumbling block to succeeding in school (not knowing how to learn) is the lack of a proper attitude. If a student doesn't like school or learning or is bored by it, then motivation is a constant process generally resulting in poor performance. The good news is that attitude is only a matter of perception and perception can be changed.
In this workshop you will learn a very precise and powerful strategy for "turning students on". You can use this strategy to turn them on to school, homework, learning, or whatever else you think is appropriate for their educational journey.
Blocks to Learning--Learning Styles You Haven't Heard About Yet
When we think about Learning Styles, most educators think about visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. In Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), we have identified 14 different filters to learning (of which the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic is only one) which significantly influence the learning process. This information (which is new to education) provides answers to questions such as:
- Why some students don't like homework?
- Why students react differently to various subjects?
- Why some students never agree with you?
- Why some students respond to threats and others don't?
- Why some students have to figure things out themselves and reject your helpful suggestions?
Knowing these learning styles can allow you to be more perceptive and knowledgeable in how to deal with the different students in your classroom--particularly the underachievers.
Helping Students Develop a Positive Self Esteem
How well anyone does in school, or even later in life, is fundamentally determined by his or her self esteem. People generally perform in a manner consistent with how they think about themselves. Those who image themselves to be a loser or a poor student will behave accordingly. Happily, the opposite is also true--those who image themselves to be a winner or a good student will behave as such.
A large part of a student's self esteem comes from their reaction to what significant others (family, friends and teachers) think or say about them. This is particularly true when these comments concern what "kind" of person the individual is. In this workshop, you will learn how you can design your comments to have a maximum and positive influence on every student's self esteem.
Dealing with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
The presenter has used Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) to model the internal experience of people with ADD symptoms. In this presentation, he will cover the results of his research and also some of the processes he has designed to help those with ADD symptoms. He will also cover some techniques on how to communicate with a person with ADD symptoms. The information in this workshop is ground-breaking and brand new. It is receiving world-wide attention through his book "Rediscover the Joy of Learning."
How To Communicate With A Person With Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
One of the most common complaints of parents and teachers who are involved with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is the difficulty in communicating. Complaints range from: They don't listen!, They forget what I tell them!, to They don't care! One of the reasons for this is the way the mind of the person with ADD symptoms works. In this seminar, you will learn the unique way their mind works and how to utilize that knowledge to more effectively communicate with them.
What Parents and Teachers Can Do When A Child Struggles in School
One of the most frustrating experiences for a parent or teacher is when a child struggles in school. Many times the reasons are hard to figure out as well as the solutions. Blame is everywhere among teachers, students and parents. The leader of this workshop has found five areas in which problems exist: 1. An inappropriate attitude toward school, 2. Not knowing how to learn in the classroom, 3. Lack of motivation, 4. The blame game, and 5. Inappropriate responses of parents, teachers and students. In this class you will explore in depth these reasons that heretofore have not been examined in detail. Solutions that really work will also be covered.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) in Education
In this 1 to 3 day workshop, you will learn some of the basic, yet very powerful NLP processes and skills in the classroom and with individual students. You will learn ways to access and stabilize states of excellence in yourself and your students. You will learn to read verbal and nonverbal cues in students in order to determine how they best learn. You will also learn other NLP processes to help yourself and students like: how to deal with criticism, how to overcome performance or test anxiety, and how to establish well-formed outcomes. And, much more depending upon the length of the workshop. |
